Hagit Hel-Or is a Professor in the Dept of Computer Science. She holds a PhD degree in Computer Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and has completed postdoctoral studies as well as visiting researcher positions at Stanford’s Dept of Psychology. She is head of The Computational Human Behavior lab at the University of Haifa that focuses on understanding human behavior using Computer Vision and Machine Learning tools.
Her research is inherently interdisciplinary and is based on collaborations with experts in fields such as
Psychology, Physiology, Physiotherapy, Sign Language, Behavioral Economics, and more. She researches
and develops novel Computer Vision and Machine Learning algorithms to serve in the study of human behavior.
Using these tools together with additional Data Science tools, and exploiting SoTA technologies and sensors she has successfully studied numerous
human behavioral questions and challenges. Examples of research from her lab include: automating and adaptive balance testing for risk of fall of elderly individuals, guided rehabilitation, analyzing cognitive functioning in anxiety and depression patients, diagnostics of mental disorders,
computer vision and machine learning based analysis of testing for Autism, abnormal language development in children, development of language via study of sign language and more.
Results of the studies have been published in leading journals and conferences both in Computer science and in the fields of our collaborators.
