About

I am an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Director of the Human-AI Interaction Lab at the University of Haifa. I study complex human systems—how people interact, make decisions, and adapt when technology, uncertainty, and time shape their choices. My research explores human–AI collaboration, the information hidden in what is missing or unexpected, and how the timing of interactions shapes collective outcomes.

I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and an M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the Technion.

Research Areas

  • My research examines complex human systems: how people interact, make decisions, and adapt when technology, uncertainty, and time shape their choices. I combine computational modeling, information theory, network science, data analysis, and human-centered research.
  • Human–AI Collaboration and Teaming. I study what happens when artificial intelligence becomes part of a human team. My work examines how AI affects creativity, communication, trust, professional expertise, occupational identity, and decision-making. I investigate these questions in settings such as group ideation, education, professional work, and emergency medicine, with the goal of designing responsible AI systems that augment human capabilities, learning and judgment.
  • Learning via Surprisability and Information in Absence. I study the information contained in the gap between what is expected and what is actually observed. Important absences and unexpected changes are often overlooked by conventional analytical methods. I develop information-theoretic and interpretable computational approaches for identifying these signals in complex, high-dimensional, and temporal data, and for making missing information visible in intelligent interfaces and decision-support systems.
  • Computational Human Behavior Modeling. I use digital traces, textual content, preferences, emotions, and interaction data to model human behavior. My research examines how people express emotions, form preferences, evaluate experiences, interact with intelligent systems, and behave in online communities. Applications include recommender and dialogue systems, social media, electronic commerce, online reviews, and user modeling.
  • Temporal Networks and Complex Systems. I study networks whose connections change over time. My research examines how the timing, order, and rhythm of interactions—not only who is connected to whom—shape collective outcomes. I develop interaction-based models to investigate community dynamics, engagement patterns, individual risk, and the spread of infectious diseases using real-world and simulated interaction data.
  • Broader research record also includes computer and communication networks, internet routing, cloud systems, bandwidth optimization, and software-defined networking. This systems background continues to inform my study of dynamic networks and technology-mediated human behavior.
